Pros & Cons :if you are looking for a basic field surveying-orienteering tool, i would bypass the all-in-one, low-quality brunton 8099 pro, and get yourself a (1) proven basic orienteering compass, silva ranger, or pricey surveyor's pocket transit, and use it in conjunction with (2) a pocket level (available at hardware and surveying stores) and tripod or jacob's staff for sighting elevation change (and distance, with the stadia lines), and (3) a reliable hand inclinometer for measuring degree of slope.
