Essential gear for any explorer

If you’re getting started as a hiker or a mountain climber there are some essentials you’ll always need with you. Hiking can be a thrilling experience, but it’s also a dangerous one if you are poorly equipped. Like with anything in life, preparation is very important. Here are some of the essentials you will need with you on any hiking journey.
Know where you’re at:
- Map
- Compass
- GPS
These are probably the most important things you’ll need on any hiking adventure. Make sure you know where you’re at and where you’re going. Maps, compasses, and even a GPS device are extremely useful for helping you pinpoint a specific location.
Tools:
- Knife
- Flint
- Rope
These are some basic tools you might want to consider having on you. Add as many other tools as you think you might need. For example, a hikng axe might come in handy if you’re hiking through a forest terrain. If you plan on camping during your hiking trip a hiking axe is a must. It is mainly used to chop, cut, or split trees making it very easy to gather firewood. A flint and knife can be tricky to work with when starting a fire, but they are extremely durable and reliable.
Equipment:
- Flashlights
- First-Aid
- Water bottles
Having extra bottles of water, first-aid kits, and flashlights in case of emergency are important. You might also want to pack extra food and clothes. If it happens to rain you may want to have a light weight rain jacket on hand, like a Columbia sportswear glacier glade iii parka.
I’ve been hiking a few times and my first couple of trips I was poorly prepared and ended up having a miserable time. As I learned what I needed to bring and what I didn’t I began to enjoy the environment and have a great time. Whether it’s hiking, camping, or rock climbing it’s important that you carry the proper gear.
