John Varvatos is an American contemporary menswear designer with a load of talent and experience behind him. He’s worked at Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren, and is responsible for the largely successful Polo Jeans division of Ralph Lauren. Varvatos created his own line of menswear in 2000 and from there has branched out into belts, handsbags, eyewear, watches, and shoes. In 2001, Converse shoe company asked Varvatos to design for a selection of their shoes.
The designs Varvatos did for Converse were so popular that Converse asked Varvatos to continue working on their products. John Varvatos Converse shoes have been called “multipurpose kicks that will complement everything from your going-out gear to your athletic attire.” Now Varvatos is creating shoes and clothes for Converse. In addition to designing casual athletic shoes for the shoe company, Varvatos has created the John Varvatos Bosey Leather Boots, his take on the classic Converse high-top popularized in the 50s.
With that said, if Converse isn’t your thing, John Varvatos has a wide selection of stylish shoes under his own brand. For example, if you are looking for a shoe that will go great with casual clothes or with a business suit when the weather is especially foul, the John Varvatos Chelsea Boot is the shoe for you. The Chelsea is an ankle boot made of fine Italian leather and has a custom-designed Vibram Rubber sole that adds good traction, soft cushioning of the heel and is long-lasting.
John Varvatos shoes aren’t limited to boots and Converse designs though. His dress shoes run the gamut from traditional wingtips to twists on shoe classics like the Bowery Button Oxford. This and the John Varvatos Bowery Boot (pictured above) are reminiscent of the Edwardian Period and work perfect with casual and business attire while giving the wearer a chance to show off their unique taste.
