Overall good product. Level "1" seems a bit more like Level "2 or 3" at the gym, but think it'll work out well in the long run. Also, good assembly instructions too, but here are 4 simple pointers that should help you avoid any squeaking problems: 1. Buy a spray can of WHITE LITHIUM GREASE from K Mart etc. for a few dollars. 2. Before assembling each part where two parts come together, clean out the metal shavings (left from the manufacturer) inside the holes as best you can. 3. Spray the inside and lubricate all joints and rods with the white lithium grease (a better quality grease that doesn't degrade as much over time). 4. IMPORTANT: On Step 7-3 (Install Right and Left Lower Handlebars), it says to "Use the two supplied combo wrenches to 'thoroughly tighten' the hardware", but I found that if you over-tighten this, even with plenty of lubrication, it will squeak a minute into using the machine. Simple fix: Get it lightly snug, then loosen the two bolts just a bit. Hope this helps ...

To make a long story short, this Elliptical has proven extremely worthy for home use. It's very smooth unlike other ellipticals. Squeeked a little bit at first, but that was due to over fastening of the nuts & bolts. I highly recommend this, plus its a great deal. My Fiance and I did tons of research, and this had the best reviews. It really is a great buy! Pros: Easy to assemble (Less than 1h 30 mins), Lots of settings. Cons: None so far, have only owned it for a few weeks.

The whole process of buying an elliptical machine came from a desire to try something different than the treadmill I have been using everyday for the last twelve years. My trusty treadmill has been a great, reliable performer for over a decade. I was looking for something to be hopefully as reliable and to provide a more balanced and challenging workout, which I believe an elliptical to be. After many visits to different sporting goods stores and "tryouts" of various brands of machines, my husband and I agreed to purchase a Schwinn product. The decision was based on price point, quality and extensive research on the internet. We read professional reviews, consumer reviews and general product reviews until we could not read anymore. The first thing about the Schwinn ellipitcals that impressed us, was the smooth action of the machine. It felt on par with more expensive, so called "gym quality" machines. We decided on the 430 because it offered everything we wanted and didn't include anything we weren't concerned with. The footprint of the machine was a definite concern for us, because of the limited space we had to place it. The Schwinn 430 actually takes up less space than the spacesaver treadmill it replaces. It is very easy to move as well. We have read varying accounts on the assembly time for the Schwinn 430. Usually two and a half to four hours. I'm not really sure what the problems were for other purchasers, but my husband had it assembled and ready for use in 1.5 hours. He took his time and said it was very simple to assemble. We have not experienced any of the squeaking problems we have read about from other reviews. My husband appreciated the heads up from previous reviews, about over tightening bolts to moving components. With this in mind, he was able to alleviate any squeaking problems. The 430 has been perfect since the last screw was tightened on the drink holder. Overall, we are extremely pleased with our purchase of the Schwinn 430 Elliptical Trainer. A great investment. A great machine.
